A born and raised Kentucky girl, I graduated from Hancock County High School in 2003 and went on to graduate from Lindsey Wilson College in 2007 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and specialization in Accounting. In my final college semester, I worked as a tax intern at the Owensboro, KY office of BKD, LLP, and then continued my appointed full-time job the following tax season with BKD at the Evansville, IN office. During my time at the accounting firm, I was exposed to a wide variety of tax returns form consolidated business returns to individual returns with farms, rentals, and small businesses. While I enjoyed the work, I didn’t love the culture at the accounting firm, and with the recession in 2009, only a couple of months after I passed the final portion of the CPA exam, cut backs eliminated my position. I quickly found a staff accountant position at the local, yet global, Koch Enterprises Inc. I worked there for 4 years in a variety of accounting duties in different business entities, nonprofit accounting, and creating the consolidated quarterly financial statements, annual budgets, and rolling forecasts of the many subsidiaries. Through my work at Koch Enterprises, I performed many accounting duties for Signature School Inc., and when the school was able to hire a full-time Finance Director/IT Coordinator combo, I made the move. While the work at Koch was intriguing, serving a greater cause like the exceptional education provided at Signature School, was a much welcomed change. A few years in, my husband, James, and I purchased Red Ghost Gun Shop Inc. on the northwest side of Evansville between 2015 and 2016. By 2018, the job at Signature School had vastly evolved, and it along with performing accounting duties for the gun shop, and helping to manage it and the new business opportunities branching from it, lead me to step away from the Signature School Finance Director position after a little more than five years. For a little over a year, I worked through our small businesses forming new entities, performing accounting duties, and running Red Ghost Custom Engraving LLC which had spun off from a service provided at the gun shop, but something was missing.
I realized my passion was performing the bookkeeping, payroll, and other accounting duties that most despise. It is a burden that I could lift off others’ shoulders, and being the sole employee in my engraving shop for a year had shown me the reality that even when you are an accountant and you enjoy the bookkeeping work, in that small business/sole proprietor situation, the last thing you want or feel like you can spend time on, is the accounting tasks – they don’t MAKE you any money! You always feel like you have to use every minute available working on that new product or service to offer your clients, or update the website so new clients can easily find you and purchase your items, etc. That’s where I want to lift the burden and stress off my fellow overwhelmed, over-worked small business owners. Don’t feel like you can afford it? That’s what I would have thought…except you probably can. For as little as $100/mo, you can have always up-to-date records, monthly financial statements that provide a clear picture of your sales, cash, liabilities, expenses, etc, and a clean report of everything business related that your tax preparer is going to need to complete your income tax return efficiently (maybe save you some money) and accurately. How much is that worth to you – no gathering receipts and totaling things up, and fretting whether you’ve forgotten something. I’ve been there, no judgment, but now I want to relieve that stress for you. Call me, email me, or go check out our prices here, and let’s move forward together for a financially peaceful mind.
